Chest and Neck

Body acne is the generic term
for any area other than the face that may be affected. Common
areas for occurrence are the back, chest, and neck but may include
the shoulders and buttocks as well. Outbreaks are caused by bacteria
trapped and breeding in hair follicles clogged with dead skin
cells and oil. Treatment will be similar to facial conditions,
but due to the differences in the skin and the difficulties in
reaching the affected areas, will likely prove more challenging.
Not just limited to teens only, studies reveal up to 54% of women
and 40% of men suffer symptoms to some extent. Because the affected
areas are generally covered, body acne treatment is often ignored.
Lack of attention and care can result in long term discomfort,
physically and psychologically, and lead to scarring.
Outbreaks may be as mild as blemishes,
blackheads or pimples, or as severe as pustules, cysts and boils.
Consequently treatments may range from home remedies and natural
cures to topical medications and prescription drugs.
Painful irritation will probably
be your first concern. By taking a few simple steps and precautions,
you can do quite a bit in the area of self care to help bring
some relief to your discomfort. |

Personal hygiene is extremely
important. Daily showering or bathing with a mild cleanser is
always the first step toward healing and relief.
Athletic or active lifestyles,
climate or environment, any or all of these can prove to be additionally
challenging. Sweat is a major aggravator, thus those who tend
to sweat more, suffer more. Sweat can lead to further clogging
of your skins pores and thus contributes to the problem.
Back acne is especially affected in this way. If you tend to
sweat a great deal from any cause, weather, exercise, exertion,
etc., change into dry clothes as soon and as often as possible.
Dont forget to keep clean, dry sheets on your bed also.
The type of clothing you wear
will make a huge difference. Loose fitting apparel will not only
be more comfortable, but will allow more air circulation. Cotton
clothes are recommended for better airflow and tend to dry quicker.
Avoid garments of synthetic fabrics such polyesters as they tend
to trap perspiration.
Backpacks or anything similar
with straps that can irritate should be avoided in cases of back
or chest conditions. The same applies to clothing with high or
tight fitting collars. Anyone that has ever had a chaffed neck
can attest to the fact, it is a super sensitive area.
When it comes to medications,
body acne treatment should depend on your dermatologists
diagnosis and recommendation. Recommendations may include gels,
creams, lotions, or washes containing benzoyl peroxide for its
antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Other possibilities
may be some form of vitamin A, sulfur or salicylic acid. Severe
conditions, such as the presence of cysts, may require very powerful
prescription medicines. For milder cases, you may be able to
use OTC (over the counter) products, but just make sure they
are suitable for your needs and not specifically for facial use
only.
Some of these products may be
pretty aggressive. Side effects may be dry, red or itchy skin,
so pay close attention to your skins condition to avoid
an additional problem. If your skin becomes overly dry, moisturize
with a non-comedogenic lotion or moisturizer to avoid the risk
of clogging the pores.
As in all cases, people are different
and conditions are different. It may take some experimenting
to find that best body acne treatment. Just keep
doing all you can do and best of luck!
